I refer to concerns raised by Mr Keith Mader of Walling Rock Station in relation to sandalwood harvesting operations on that property, and ask:
(a) has the Minister had these concerns fully investigated; and
(i) if not, why not;
(b) in the process of investigating Mr Mader’s concerns, did Government officers personally inspect the harvest sites and contractors’ camps on the ground to check that:
(i) rehabilitation and planting of seeds was being correctly undertaken;
(ii) excessive land had not been cleared;
(iii) the required amount of sandalwood, and no more, was taken;
(iv) sandalwood was not being taken and used as firewood;
(v) indigenous sites of significance were not affected;
(vi) all required safety equipment was available and in working order;
(vii) no undersize trees were harvested; and
(viii) the success rate of plantings was satisfactory;
(c) if a personal inspection of the harvest sites and contractors’ camps was not made, what method was used to investigate the concerns;
(d) what were the results of the investigation in relation to the concerns listed at (b); and
(e) what were the results of the investigation in relation to concerns raised by Mr Mader about the tendering process for sandalwood harvesting?
