I refer to the Department for State Development's membership to the Committee for Economic Development of Australia, and ask: (a) why is the department a member of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia; (b) who made the decision to have the department become a member of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia; (c) how much does the membership to the Committee for Economic Development of Australia cost the department; and (d) what tangible benefits has the membership to the Committee for Economic Development of Australia delivered to the department?

The Department of State Development advises:
(a) + (d) Benefits for the Department of State Development have included: the development of staff leadership capability (five Department of State Development staff have participated in the Copland Leadership Program since 2009); increased staff awareness and understanding of current economic issues particularly for junior staff; opportunities for the Department of State Development to convey its views on Western Australia’s development and its activities to support Western Australia’s development through presentations at events; and opportunities for staff to understand the perspectives of industry and academia.
(b) The Department of State Development became a member of the Committee for Economic Development Australia in 2009 with the approval of the Director General of the time.
(c) The current annual subscription is $7 200 for the year ending 31 January 2017.
