❓ The parliamentary question concerns a potential breach of the ministerial code of conduct by the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure due to her spouse's Alinta shares during cabinet discussions. The Premier deflects the question by accusing the Leader of the Opposition of not declaring interests.

QuestionView source ↗
I refer to the Premier’s absolutely startling admissions today, including that the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure’s spouse held Alinta shares at the time of the 5 August 2004 cabinet discussions about the financial assistance agreement for the sale of the Dampier to Bunbury natural gas pipeline. I refer also to the minister’s subsequent statement indicating that she will not be resigning as a result. (1) As the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure has breached the Premier’s ministerial code of conduct in the same way as the former Minister for Seniors has done, why will the Premier not sack her? (2) As the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure’s futile explanation today was the same as that given by the former Minister for Seniors, who had to resign following his transgression, why will the Premier not sack her? Dr G.I. GALLOP

(1)-(2) The startling revelation today has been that the Leader of the Opposition does not declare his interests, as is required under legislation. That has been the revelation in Parliament today. Mr M.J. Birney : Absolute rubbish. Dr G.I. GALLOP : When will the Leader of the Opposition table them? Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order, members! Dr G.I. GALLOP : The answer to the question was given in my statement to the Parliament today. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order, members! Dr G.I. GALLOP : The Minister for Planning and Infrastructure indicated that her husband submitted those returns directly to the cabinet secretary and that she was not aware of the contents. On the question of the minister being aware of it, she has acknowledged that. I have counselled her on that point, and she also has indicated what she will do. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order, members! Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : I call the member for Vasse to order for the second time. Dr G.I. GALLOP : The reason these matters are being debated in Western Australia today is that members on this side of the house are open and transparent.
