The following number of foster homes and foster carers including relative and self-selected carers were registered in each Department for Community Development District at 29 February 2004. District Foster Carers Armadale 138 Cannington 126 Fremantle 153 Goldfields 52 Great Southern 49 Joondalup 111 Kimberley 70 Midland 188 Mirrabooka 190 Murchison 91 Peel 73 Perth 156 Pilbara 50 Rockingham 111 Southwest 165 Wheatbelt 95 *Adolescent Child Support Service 47 *Adoption Service 29 *Foster Carer Recruitment Service 6 Total: 1900 The Adolescent Child Support Service recruits and trains specialist foster carers to care for children and young people with challenging behaviours as part of the One to One Program. The Adoption Service recruits and trains pre-adoptive foster carers who are occasionally used to care for very young children who are not being relinquished for adoption. The Foster Care Recruitment Service (FCRS) is responsible for recruiting and training all general foster carers apart from One to One carers. New general foster carers are registered initially with FCRS prior to being managed by a metropolitan or country District Office.
