RENTAL
ACCOMMODATION — AFFORDABILITY
387. Dr D.J. HONEY to the Premier:
If the Premier is genuinely
interested in delivering more housing stock in the affordable range, why does
he not tweak his policy and direct more high-rise developments to lower priced,
more affordable suburbs, and stop his attack on the western suburbs?
The SPEAKER : Order, please!
Members, I am waiting to be able to give the Premier the call.

I know that the member surveys the
premium housing product of his electorate all the time, but if he goes to
places like Cannington, he would see
multi-dwelling, quality and affordable housing products being developed
everywhere . The member should come to
my electorate, where he could see a range of medium-density and high-density
housing developments taking place. In fact, he would see a great
development around my home, to which the member is not invited. It is higher
density development around the Metronet hub, which is about creating vibrant,
accessible, interconnected and great communities.
The member needs to get out of the
western suburbs and stop worrying about his own backyard. We are getting on
with the process of developing affordable social housing right across the
metropolitan area in Western Australia. I am sorry that it is not taking place
in the member's area, but we are determined to produce great housing
outcomes in a difficult time, and the Minister for Housing is doing a great job
to make sure that we can provide great homes for Western Australians.
