(2) If so, does Western Power intend to maintain ownership in the future?

The Minister for Energy has provided the following response: (1) Yes, Western Power is the 100% shareholder of Bright Telecommunications Pty Ltd. (2) No, Western Power does not intend to maintain ownership in the future. The Bright business is outside the core activities of energy transmission and distribution. In addition, the business requires substantial capital for growth with higher market risk. (3) The profit/ loss for each financial period is as follows for the Bright operations of Western Power: Profit (Loss) excluding customer connection costs : 2003, 4.8 million. 2004, 4.1 million. 2005, 0.6 million. 2006, 0.6 million. (4) No. The subsidiary Bright Telecommunications Pty Ltd (BTPL) was dormant from its inception in December 2002 to June 2006. During this period the Bright business functioned within the Western Power charter and business activities. These activities were recorded in a separate ring-fenced ledger. BTPL has been activated from the 1 st July 2006 to facilitate the sale of the business. (5) Not Applicable as the company was dormant to the 30 th June 2006. (6-7) Not applicable.
