During Term 2, 2006 the new version of the online incident notification system will be implemented. This system provides for greater consistency in relation to data entry, including whether or not weapons were possessed. Information provided in 2002 to Parliament required manual examination of information faxed by schools. This information was heavily qualified due to the inaccuracy of the data. (2) The provision of data in relation to this question for the years 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 would require manual examination of information. Responses would need to be heavily qualified due to the inaccuracy of the data. The following data is provided based on reports submitted through the online notification system from 2004. INCIDENTS REPORTED ONLINE IN RELATION TO WEAPONS IN GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS 2004:36 2005: 23 2006:11 (3) The school is required to investigate the incident. All government schools are expected to report suspected criminal activity to the police. The response will depend on the circumstances and the severity of the incident and may include suspension or exclusion of the student/s.
