(1) In view of the serious environmental objections to the proposed Kwinana desalination plant raised by eminent scientists and engineers about issues including the possible impacts of hypersaline water on the seagrass, will the minister refer this matter to the Environmental Protection Authority under section 43 of the Environmental Protection Act for reassessment, taking this new evidence into account? The Minister for the Environment has provided the following response - (1)-(3) The State Government is satisfied that the concerns raised about saline discharge from the Perth metropolitan desalination plant will be addressed through environmental conditions applying to the approval. These concerns were considered by the Environmental Protection Authority during the two assessments of the proposal. Therefore, the Minister for the Environment does not intend to seek reassessment by the EPA of this proposal.
