PUBLIC
TRANSPORT AUTHORITY — COMPULSORY LAND ACQUISITION — HIGH
WYCOMBE
967. Ms R. SAFFIOTI to the
Minister for Transport:
I again refer to the question: why did the Minister for
Transport not personally follow up with that family, and does he really think
it is appropriate to be kicking out a family and their business in two months?
Does he think it is appropriate to give them two months to get a new home and a
new business location? Does he think that is appropriate?
The SPEAKER : A
short supplementary answer, minister.

Thank you, Mr Speaker.
Ms R. Saffioti interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for West Swan, I call you to order for the third time.
Ms R. Saffioti interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for West Swan!
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Bassendean, I call you for the second time. Member for Warnbro, I
call you for the third time. Leader of the Opposition, I call you for the first
time. Member for Churchlands, I call you for the first time. If somebody wants
to have a rest, go ahead.
Mr D.C. NALDER : I
take personal responsibility for ensuring these people are treated fairly and
responsibly—personal responsibility.
Mr W.J. Johnston :
You failed.
Mr D.C. NALDER : I
do not believe we have failed.
There comes a point in time when we need to move forward, and
the processes for moving forward have been laid out for them. There is some
flexibility. Those people are not being removed for Christmas. The date that was
put down was 31 January. There is some flexibility around that date as long as
they work with the Public Transport Authority, but right at this point it comes
down to price. This is what it does: it comes down to price. If claims are made
that are seven times above what the government has offered—the
government has offered 45 per cent above what they paid for it two years
earlier—it is a bit ridiculous. The government is moving forward in a
responsible way.
The government will endeavour to
remain flexible about relocation, but the government is getting on with
delivering the Forrestfield–Airport Link—what it promised at
the last election.
