BUNBURY TO ALBANY GAS
PIPELINE
1352. Hon COLIN TINCKNELL to the minister representing the
Minister for Energy:
In 2016, having deemed it unviable,
the Barnett government scrapped long-promised plans to build the Bunbury to
Albany gas pipeline. The construction of this pipeline would bring gas to
thousands of homes and businesses throughout the south west, as well as create
greater commercial security and viability for towns like Donnybrook,
Bridgetown, Manjimup, Mt Barker and Albany.
(1) In light of the federal government's
recent splurge on infrastructure projects, has the McGowan government applied
for federal funding for this project, which would make it more viable; and, if
not, why not?
(2) Does the
McGowan government have any plans to make this pipeline a reality and provide
gas to the people of the south west; if so, when; and, if not, why not?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by
the Minister for Energy.
(1)–(2) No.
The Bunbury to Albany gas pipeline was an election commitment of the former
Liberal–National government that was not progressed.
