With regards to the proposed Fish Habitat Protection Area volunteer programme, I ask -
(1) Is this programme to be funded?
(2) If yes to (1), when?
(3) If no to (1), why not?
(4) What is the estimated cost of establishing a FHPA volunteer’s programme?
(5) How is it envisaged that FHPAs will be policed if there is no FHPA volunteer programme?

(2) Not applicable (3) It would duplicate the Volunteer Fisheries Liaison Officers' program (4) Initially $15,000 and $5,000 per year thereafter (5) Fisheries Officers include FHPAs in normal patrols. Where appropriate, Local Government rangers will be made Honorary Fisheries Officers. In addition, people wishing to volunteer to assist in FHPAs can be trained as Voluntary Fisheries Liaison Officers and then undertake appropriate activities in FHPAs.
