In relation the State Government’s announcement to provide more accessible housing for people with disabilities over the next three years, I ask -
(1) Can the Minister advise when the construction of the accessible housing homes for 2011-2012 will commence?
(2) If the construction of these homes has begun, how many homes to date have commenced or are completed?
(3) Has the Department of Housing purchased any homes for the 2011-2012 year?
(4) If yes to (3), how many homes have been purchased?

The
Department of Housing
advises:
(1) Construction of fourteen specifically designed mobility dwellings to meet the requirements of the Disability Services Commission is currently scheduled for commencement in 2011/12, subject to securing suitable land.
The balance of requirements for Disability Services Commission, Mental Health Commission and Drug and Alcohol Office will be delivered through a procurement strategy incorporating the spot purchase of established properties and new construction providing universal access design features.
(2) Not applicable
(3) Yes
(4) The Department is currently progressing the spot purchase of thirteen existing properties.  Negotiations on further acquisitions are continuing.
