WESTERN ROCK LOBSTER
INDUSTRY — MINISTER FOR FISHERIES
980. Dr D.J. HONEY to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Is
it the case that the Premier has no authority over the Minister for Fisheries,
and, in fact, even if he wanted to, he could not replace him?

AnswerView source ↗

Honestly, I suppose the only way to
answer that is I express my gratitude to the preselectors of Cottesloe.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members!
Mr M. McGOWAN : It is the safest
Liberal seat in the state, and they gave us the member. We are very happy. They
had that bright young woman; they got rid of her. They had the former Premier
serve for eight and a half years; they got rid of him and they gave us the
member. I am surprised sometimes with the member for Cottesloe, because I remember when he was party president,
and he beat old Reg Withers for the presidency. Remember when he knocked
him off and he was regarded as a rising star? Now, here he is, asking frankly
embarrassing questions every single day in Parliament. I think his best
political years are behind him.
The SPEAKER : That is the end
of question time.
