Local Government Grants Commission
413. Hon Rob Horstman to
the minister representing the Minister for Local Government:
I refer to the local
government federal assistance grants scheme, of which allocation of the grants is
determined by the WA Local Government Grants Commission. I note that grants for
2024–25 were received before the end of the 2023–24 financial
year.
(1) Has the WA Local Government Grants Commission
made its determination on the allocation of these grants for 2025–26?
(2) If yes to (1), will the minister table the state
summary?
(3) When does the minister anticipate that the
2025–26 federal assistance grants will be paid to Western Australian
local governments?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question. The following response has been provided by
the Minister for Local Government.
(1)–(3) The Department of Local
Government, Sport and Cultural Industries advises that the WA Local Government
Grants Commission has not finalised the 2025–26 grant determinations as
the federal government does not advise of the total quantum of financial
assistance grants for distribution until mid-July 2025. Local governments are
being paid an advance of funds by 30 June 2025 equivalent to approximately 50%
of WA's share of the 2025–26 funds. Local governments typically receive
their remaining entitlement between mid-August, mid-November, mid-February and
mid-May.
