I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1)-(2) The Active After-School Communities Program is a federal government initiative and is fully funded by the federal government. The Department of Education and Training provides regular advice and in-kind support to the program through direct links with government primary schools in Western Australia and as a part of the physical activity strategy. The Western Australian government is fully committed to reducing the prevalence of childhood obesity. The Premier’s Physical Activity Taskforce was established in 2001 - there was nothing before that because the member’s government did nothing before that; it was certainly not an initiative of the Court government - to fulfil the state government’s vision to increase participation in physical activity across the whole of the Western Australian community. In February 2005, the Western Australian government announced that it will become mandatory for all primary school students to do at least two hours of physical activity every week. Subsequently, the department has committed to ensuring that all students in years 1 to 10 will be participating in a minimum of two hours per week by 2007.
