As a supplementary question, in view of the answer just given, how does the minister explain that the Moerlina School in Mt Claremont, which has a socioeconomic status score of 124 - that is near the top of the range - received a funding increase of 5.2 per cent, yet Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School, which has an equivalent score of only 102, received only a three per cent increase? The SPEAKER: Calling that question a supplementary is stretching it. I do not know whether the minister is in a position to answer that question. Mr A.J. CARPENTER

I will do my best. Give me a copy of the question, and I will provide a more detailed response. The member will find some anomalies in the way the socioeconomic status process plays out. With the income derived from fees, I think the member will find that the fees charged by Bunbury Cathedral Grammar are substantially higher than those charged by Moerlina. I make no apology; I am absolutely certain we made the right decision. The member gave a figure in the question of a 5.2 per cent increase: if we could provide a 5.2 per cent increase every year to government schools, we would have fewer problems with the underfunding of government schools. These schools received a very significant increase in funding in dollar terms from the State Government, and received a massive increase in funding from the federal Government.
