Sexual assault service—Great Southern, Kimberley and
Wheatbelt
466. Hon Jess Beckerling to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the
finding by the Centre for Women's Safety and Wellbeing that there is currently
no dedicated state-run specialist sexual assault service in the Great Southern,
Kimberley and Wheatbelt regions
(1) What funding has the government allocated to
set up a dedicated state-run specialist sexual assault service in the Great
Southern, Kimberley and Wheatbelt regions?
(2) If the answer to (1) is none, why not?
(3) What plans does the government have to ensure
there is an Aboriginal community–led service available to Aboriginal
victim-survivors of sexual assault in the Kimberley region?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question. The following has been provided by the Minister for Health.
(1)–(3) An approach to reviewing and
commissioning sexual assault services is underway and initial planning has
commenced. The review and commissioning work will involve consultation with the
sector, including the Aboriginal community–controlled organisation
sector.
