A parliamentary question addresses the proposed funding system for the Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) through an emergency service levy, specifically inquiring about the intention to implement a single or dual levy system and its revenue implications. The Minister confirms ongoing consultation with local government and assures that both levy options would generate the same revenue.

FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES AUTHORITY, FUNDING
I refer to the proposed new funding system for the Fire and Emergency Services Authority through an emergency service levy. (1) Does the minister intend to go ahead with FESA’s proposal for an emergency services levy and a separate road rescue levy? (2) If so, will these two levies raise the same amount of revenue as FESA’s original proposal for a single levy for emergency services? Mrs ROBERTS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) I assure the member that consultation on the Fire and Emergency Services Authority’s proposal is currently being undertaken with local government. Once that consultation period is finished the Government will give consideration to the levy. (2) FESA’s proposal is that either the single levy or the two levies will raise the same amount of money.
