GREAT NORTHERN HIGHWAY
BYPASS — BINDOON
551. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to funding for the Great
Northern Highway bypass of the Bindoon town site, which was announced in the
state budget.
(1) Please
identify the state and federal government funding separately by financial year
for the life of the expected project.
(2) When will the
project commence construction and what is the expected date that the new
alignment will be operational?
(3) When is it
planned that the state government will be in a position to secure the corridor
by way of purchasing land from affected landholders?
(4) Has the
corridor been finalised and what remaining approvals are outstanding for the
project to proceed?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The funding
published in the state budget comprises state government funding of $500 000 in
2020–21, $1.5 million in 2021–22, $7.5 million in 2022–23
and $45.5 million in 2023–24 and onwards; and Australian government funding of $2 million in 2020–21, $6 million
in 2021–22, $72 million in 2022–23 and $140 million in
2023–24 and onwards.
(2) Construction is anticipated to commence in 2022–23,
with the project expected to be completed in 2024–25.
(3) Main Roads is
continuing with the acquisition of several significantly impacted properties,
with those and all other acquisitions anticipated to be completed by 2021–22.
(4) The corridor
has been finalised, with the precise land requirements to be completed within
the next few months. The approvals required are environmental, Indigenous and
European heritage, water extraction, and bed and banks disturbance.
