HOMELESSNESS — AUGUSTA–MARGARET RIVER
1423. Hon Dr BRAD PETTITT to the minister representing the
Minister for Homelessness:
I refer to the recent closure of
Just Home Margaret River, a housing information and referral service, due to an
inability to secure ongoing funding from the WA government. This was the only
frontline homelessness service in the Augusta–Margaret River community
and it supported 630 people over seven years.
(1) How will the minister ensure that smaller regional
communities like Margaret River will have place-based , appropriate
homelessness services that respond to local needs?
(2) What is being
done to ensure that funding to more centralised regional homelessness
organisations delivers on-the-ground services direct to small regional
communities beyond the regional centres?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. I provide the following answer on behalf of the
Minister for Homelessness.
(1)–(2)
Just Home Margaret River Inc has never been funded by the Department of
Communities. The state government is
committed to the ongoing homelessness commissioning work, with a focus on
aligning the service system
with All paths lead to a home: Western Australia's 10-year strategy
on homelessness 2020–2030 and embedding Housing First and No Wrong Door
approaches in a place-based way. The state government funds 10 specialist
support services throughout the south west region at a cost of $4.8 million per
annum. Services in the south west received a boost of over $1.2 million this
year alone.
