(a) Sex offender specific programs are currently run at five prisons: Casuarina, Bunbury, Karnet, Acacia and Greenough.
(b) (i) (ii) The Department employs Clinical Intervention Officers to deliver all treatment intervention programs. This includes sex offender specific programs. The following positions could deliver these programs:
Senior Clinical Intervention Officer
Four year Degree in Psychology or Social Work or relevant equivalent qualifications.
Clinical Intervention Officer
Four year degree in Psychology or Social Work or relevant equivalent qualifications.
The Department of Corrective Services currently has 43 FTE positions throughout metropolitan and regional prisons designed to facilitate group based treatment interventions in offending behaviours. 22 of those positions are substantively vacant.
(c) (i)(ii) 12.
(d) 22 Positions are substantively vacant however a recent recruitment exercise has resulted in the appointment of 7 psychologists who will commence at the end of May 2008. The Department is purchasing training and consultancy services from external providers for the delivery of Medium Intensity Violent Program and the Prison to Parole re-entry program throughout WA. I have also directed the Department to use the salary savings created by unfilled vacancies to contract private psychologists, social workers and other external providers to assist in delivering the programs.
