FITZROY CROSSING DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL
It seems that ministers from the other place have gone on premature holiday; I submitted three questions today and answers to two of those questions are not available. I refer the minister to the last budget papers, which shows that an estimated $9 million will be spent on Fitzroy Crossing District High School in 2006-07. (1) Is the minister aware that the department’s audited annual report figure shows that only $1.366 million has been spent on Fitzroy Crossing District High School? (2) Is the minister aware that, with regard to that project, the annual report merely states that its planning continued during the year? (3) Will the minister explain how the department accounts for the divergence between last year’s budgeted figure for capital spending of $9 million and the significantly different figure of $1.366 million that is shown in the annual report? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Yes. (2) Yes. (3) I am advised that the divergence between the budgeted figure of $9 million for capital spending during 2006-07 and the actual expenditure of $1.366 million is due to a combination of factors. These include significant delays due to a need to resolve a number of land issues and obtain clearing permits and the need to tender 34 individual work packages within a construction management contract. To date, 20 work packages have been tendered. Construction is now proceeding and completion of the project is expected by the commencement of term 2 in 2009.
