Regarding the systemic fungicide Benlate - (1) Is the minister aware that Benlate is no longer being manufactured? (2) Is the minister aware that Benlate has been withdrawn for sale for the home market in Australia by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority following concerns raised in 1993 over a British article alleging an association between Benlate exposure and the occurrence of eye defects in infants born in Britain? For reasons of safety, the active ingredient of Benlate - benomyls - is currently under review by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority.
