ROAD SAFETY —
TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT COMPANY REGISTRATION SCHEME — ACCREDITATION
975. Hon DARREN WEST to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the registration and
quality assurance that is now required by companies offering traffic management
services that require the use of traffic management devices.
(1) Given the
extra cost and time required by many small regional companies to obtain that
accreditation, will the minister consider extending the grace period a further
six months until March 2017 to avoid squeezing these small local businesses out
of the market?
(2) If no, why not?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question.
(1)–(2) Main Roads will not extend
the 12-month ''grace period'' for companies that applied for
registration when the traffic management company registration scheme was
implemented in October 2015. However, all companies that registered after
October 2015 will be allowed a full 12 months from the date of their initial
application to obtain the necessary accreditation.
