I thank the member for some notice
of the question.
(1) Yes.
(2) The
Department of Parks and Wildlife implements management plans to ensure
effective management of conservation reserves covered by those plans,
implements recovery plans for threatened species, monitors populations of
threatened species to detect change and determines the effectiveness of
management actions, and manages key threats to native species.
(3) The
Department of Parks and Wildlife does not specifically measure the area of land
in wildlife corridors. Connectivity between formal conservation reserves is
achieved through working with a range of stakeholders and private landowners
through supported off-reserve programs, such as the Kimberley science and
conservation strategy, Gondwana Link and Pilbara Corridors. The Department of
Parks and Wildlife takes a landscape scale approach, where possible, to
managing key threats to native animals and plants, including feral animal and
weed control, and management of fire, supporting species conservation both
within and outside the formal conservation reserve system.
