I refer to the report published by the Corruption and Crime Commission on 16 April 2012, 'Report on the Investigation of Alleged Public Sector Misconduct in Relation to the Use of Taser Weapons by Officers of Western Australia Police and the Department of Corrective Services', and I ask -
(1) What are the qualifications, experience, job description and supervision of Level 2 Custody Officers and Band 1 Auxiliary Officers compared with constables?
(2) Will the police manual administration policy AD 40 be amended to ensure that where information is publicly released by police, all reasonably practicable efforts are made before it is released to ensure the contents are accurate?

(1) Qualifications for Level 2 Custody Officers, Band 1 Auxiliary Officers and Constables in the carriage and use of Taser weapons are equal.
The same training is delivered to all three (3) levels of WA Police employees. The level of supervision for the carriage and use of Taser weapons by Level 2 Custody Officers and Band 1 Auxiliary Officers is the same as provided to Constables.
The job description for these three levels of WA Police employees varies and is relevant to their roles and responsibilities;
· Custody Officers are restricted to the custodial care of arrested persons and includes escorts and hospital guard duties of persons in police custody.
· Band One Auxiliary Officers (Custody) includes the duties and functions of a custody officer and an expanded role to include a number of administrative support functions at Police Stations.
· Police Constables have a much broader scope of roles and responsibilities, including the prevention and control of crime, maintenance of the peace, traffic management and road safety, emergency management coordination, assist members of the community in times of emergency and need.
(2) The WA Police provides a considerable amount of information to the public and media on a range of issues and it places importance upon the accuracy of information provided. Police Manual Policy AD-40 is currently the subject of a normal periodic review and this point will be considered as part of that review.
