VOICE REFERENDUM —
HON DARREN WEST'S COMMENTS
679. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question.
Premier, no apology. The Premier has called for respect, yet his own members are ignoring that call. Is it because he set that
poor standard of behaviour when he likened members of the opposition to
dogs returning to their vomit?

As I said, the way that the Leader
of the Opposition characterises Hon Darren West's comments is
inaccurate. I understand that he might take some sort of feigned concocted
outrage as a result of it, but it is quite simply not the case that Hon Darren West said the words that the Leader of the Opposition
now ascribes to him. However, his comments were inappropriate, and I have
made that clear to him. Hon Darren West has clarified those comments, I think,
by way of communication. We all understand that it is important that we
continue this debate in a respectful and appropriate matter that does not
divide the community and brings not division and fear, but hope and optimism. I
think the Leader of the Opposition and the member for Vasse could contact their
national leaders and deliver that message to the people of Western Australia.
