MORLEY POLICE STATION
326. Mrs M.H. ROBERTS to the Minister for Police:
I refer to the member for Morley's claim in his 2012–13
state budget update that there will be 80 police officers based out of the
Morley Police Station, and how delighted he was by the increased police
presence.
(1) Will the Minister for Police honour this commitment from
last year's budget?
(2) When can
the constituents of Morley expect to see the benefits of this significant increase
in police numbers?
(3) Why did
the Minister for Police not confirm this ironclad commitment recently in answer
to a question on notice?
(4) Is it not
the case that Morley Police Station currently has only 30 police officers based
there?

(1)–(4)
I thank the member for Midland for the question; she raises a very important
issue. This government in previous budgets did commit to an upgrade of the west
metropolitan police stations. That was an $11.7 million commitment to upgrade
Mirrabooka, Scarborough and Morley Police Stations. In a question on notice
asked in this place by the member for West Swan, I stated that we expected the
upgrade of Morley Police Station to be completed in 2014; and indeed it will
be.
Mrs M.H. Roberts :
Why not May 2013?
Mrs L.M. HARVEY :
For goodness sake! The upgrade of Morley Police Station will enable that police
station to increase the capacity from 30 police officers to 80. The additional
50 police officers will of course be sourced from our growth program.
