In reference to the building of seniors’ accommodation in Merredin, I ask:
will the Department of Housing be entering into any new joint ventures with the local council to build retirement villages or seniors housing in the Shire of Merredin; and
if yes, could the Minister please outline these joint ventures; and
if not, why not; and
in the absence of future joint ventures, will the Department of Housing be offering the shire any State assistance to ensure that there is enough seniors’ housing for the people of Merredin?

The Department of Housing advises:
The Department will assess any new proposal for a joint venture project from the Shire of Merredin on its merits. Currently, the Department has no proposal for a joint venture from the Shire of Merredin.
The Government is committed to the growth of social and affordable housing throughout the State. The Department has partnered with a number of housing providers to deliver housing in regional as well as metropolitan areas. State funding is allocated on the basis of best use of funds, best use of land and housing priorities for the region.
In regions that do not have a registered community housing provider, but do have an established housing demand, the Department will consider housing proposals from unregistered housing providers such as the Shire of Merredin.
