ABORIGINAL CHILDREN - PROTECTION
(1) What is the minister’s position regarding the use of direct intervention to protect vulnerable children from physical and sexual abuse in Aboriginal communities? (2) Has this policy changed since the minister and her then department took Wade Scale out of a safe environment weeks before his unfortunate death and placed him back in the care of his mother and her de facto partner, a man previously convicted of viciously assaulting defenceless children? Ms S.M. McHALE

I thank the member for his question. (1)-(2) The specifics of the Wade Scale death are not part of my current portfolio. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order! Ms S.M. McHALE : I am happy to answer the question. Since we came into government, very clearly this government has been absolutely committed to making sure that Aboriginal children and non-Aboriginal children are safe, that they are protected and that families at risk are given the best support that we can possibly give them.
