The question asks if the Barnett Government still aims for 20% renewable energy on the SWIS by 2020, referencing a 2009 commitment. The answer deflects, focusing on federal Renewable Energy Target obligations and commercial arrangements, avoiding a direct confirmation.

I refer to the comments of the Premier on 11 May 2009 “At the meeting of the COAG, the Council of Australian Government meeting a week or so ago Western Australia, along with all other States and Territories agreed to the national target of 20% renewables on the grid by 2020, so we have accepted that and we will have a lot of effort going in over the coming years to increase the amount of renewables on the grid.”, and I ask, is it still the Barnett Government’s policy to have 20% of electricity generated by renewables on the SWIS by 2020?

The State Government expects all businesses with obligations under the Renewable Energy Target Scheme that are based in Western Australia to meet their legislated obligations under the Scheme.
Liable businesses are expected to meet their legislated obligations through commercial arrangements.  For example, the government-owned corporation Synergy has a
long-term contract for the supply of electricity and certificates with the Collgar Wind Farm, while the Water Corporation has contracts with the Greenough River Solar Farm and the Mumbida Wind Farm.
The national Renewable Energy Target Scheme is being reviewed by the Commonwealth Government. Liable businesses in Western Australia will be required to comply with obligations that correspond to any revised target. This is a statutory obligation imposed by the Federal Government rather than a matter of State Government policy.
