YOUTH DETENTION — SUICIDE AND SELF-HARM ATTEMPTS
1338. Hon Dr BRAD PETTITT to the minister representing the
Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to youth
justice.
(1) Will the
minister please provide the following information on Banksia Hill Detention
Centre and unit 18 respectively for October 2023 —
(a) the number of
suicide and self-harm attempts;
(b) the monthly
average out-of-cell hours; and
(c) the number of
occasions on which a young person spent 20 or more hours in their cell?

act of self-harm that does not result in injury.
Serious
Self-Harm
An
act of self-harm that requires either overnight hospitalisation in a medical
facility (including prison clinic/infirmary); or ongoing medical treatment.
(b) For Banksia
Hill, it is nine hours and 14 minutes; and for unit 18, it is three hours and 37
minutes.
(c) For Banksia Hill, there were 97
occasions; and for unit 18, 260.
