FORRESTFIELD–AIRPORT
LINK
570. Mr I.M. BRITZA to the
Minister for Transport:
I note that further details of the exciting Forrestfield–Airport
Link project were released yesterday. Can the minister inform the house how my
constituents in Morley and constituents in the surrounding electorates will be
able to access this new rail line?
Point of Order
Mr
A. KRSTICEVIC : The member from Maylands is very noisy from the
member for Fremantle's chair. I just thought I would bring that to the
Speaker's attention.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Maylands, I would like you to take those
comments on board.

The member's interest
demonstrates how broad the benefits of this project will be. People who live in
Morley will be able to access the new Forrestfield–Airport Link through
the existing circle bus routes 98 and 99, which operate between the Morley bus
station and the Bayswater train station, and will provide access to the airport
and save over 15 minutes of travel time.
Mr
W.J. Johnston interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Cannington, you can ask a question on luggage movements
later. I call you to order for the second time.
Mr
D.C. NALDER : This is how a competent government delivers major
infrastructure projects; it plans it properly and spreads the benefits. This is
part of a much bigger picture about the careful consideration that has gone
into this project. Planning and careful consideration such as looking at the
need for car parks and putting trains on the tracks —
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Members for Mirrabooka and Forrestfield! I call the member for
Forrestfield to order for the second time and the member for Mirrabooka for the
first time. Minister, can you please give us a nice succinct answer. Thank you.
Mr
D.C. NALDER : I am trying to say that a lot of planning has gone into this
project. We will put not only a rail track through, but also trains on it. The
opposition forgets that when it built the Mandurah rail line, it neglected to
plan for trains. The government had to do that separately. We are not only
planning for trains to go on this train line, but also including the car parks.
Oh my goodness! We had to retrospectively fit car parks to the Mandurah rail
line. The opposition seems to forget that it did not plan very well for the
Mandurah rail line. That is what we are doing. A broad range of benefits will
support a number of people in many suburbs in not only the eastern suburbs, but
also to the north and other areas.
