1471. Hon ALANNA CLOHESY to the
Minister for Education:
I refer the minister to the Mount Helena Community
Kindergarten.
(1) Can the
minister provide a time line of decision-making and communications with parents
regarding enrolments and potential closure of the kindergarten?
(2) Can the
minister confirm that the kindergarten has until 31 December to demonstrate the
number of enrolments, and that if it demonstrates 10 enrolments for 2017, it
will stay open?

Decisions in relation to the closure of community kindergartens rest with the
parent management committee. The Department of Education supports community
kindergartens that meet the required number of at least 10 enrolments by
providing an operating grant and staff. The Mount Helena Community Kindergarten
parent management committee has been given a further extension until Monday, 7
December 2015 to advise whether it has achieved 10 confirmed enrolments for
2016. I am advised that the local newspaper will be running an article this
weekend and that the kindergarten is hopeful of securing additional enrolments
as a result.
