MEALS ON WHEELS SERVICES
279. Hon SAMANTHA ROWE to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to a complaint received by a
constituent in the Belmont electorate regarding the provision of meals on
wheels services from the City of Belmont, specifically that only frozen meals
are available and are delivered once a week.
(1) Do all councils fund meals on wheels services?
(2) If no to (1), how many currently fund meals on wheels
services?
(3) Is it usual practice that the only meals available are
frozen and not chilled fresh meals?
(4) How many people currently access meals on wheels services
across each of the councils?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) No.
(2) Funding is
primarily provided via the home and community care program, which is
administered through the WA Department of Health. Fifteen local governments
receive funding through the HACC program to provide meals on wheels services.
(3) Each meals
on wheels provider determines whether they provide cook-fresh, cook-chill or
frozen meals.
(4) The number
of clients that were provided meals through the 15 councils for the period
October 2014 to December 2014 cannot be provided at this time. I asked the
member to put this question on notice, but I have been advised I will be able
to provide the answer on Tuesday.
