Answer as at 22 June 2016 –
(a) There are 616 patient showers at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH).
(b) There are no concerns with the design of the patient showers (including the floor levels) at FSH.
A review of the incident reporting system highlighted patients falling off commodes used to access showers in the ensuite bathrooms within the amputee and spinal wards in the State Rehabilitation Service (SRS.) On investigation, it was found that leg extensions to the commodes can cause the commode chair to tip in the bathrooms.
Mitigation strategies are in place and replacement solutions for the commodes are currently being investigated.
