OAKAJEE PORT AND RAIL PROJECT — DEFERRAL
685. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Premier:
I ask a supplementary question. Will the Premier, as a person
who, as Premier and Minister for State Development, has intervened extensively
in this project, accept any responsibility for the shelving of this project?

AnswerView source ↗

I did intervene in this project upon coming to government,
and I intervened with a policy issue that government will own the port—that
we will not have a foreign country or foreign interest own a deep-sea port.
Mr M. McGowan : So
you do not accept any responsibility?
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
No, I do not, because putting in $670 million of taxpayer funding helps the
project. It does not hinder it.
