(a) There is only one private General Practitioner in Albany engaged by the Coroner to perform autopsies. The WA Country Health Service will be consulting with the State Coroner's Office regarding this change in autopsy arrangements for Albany.
Autopsies do not form part of the core business of Albany Hospital, therefore there will not be provision for an autopsy room in the new Albany Health Campus.
The number of autopsies carried out at Albany Hospital over the last two years is very low:
2007 - 2008 = 11
2008 - 2009 = 13
No other regional hospital in Western Australia does post mortems, they are all done at the State Mortuary in Perth.
