954. Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH to the Minister for Mental
Health:
(1) Can the
minister confirm —
(a) the number
of apparent suicides that have occurred at Fremantle Hospital's Alma
Street clinic since 2 November 2011;
(b) whether on
the weekend of 10 and 11 November, a 17 to 18-year-old male, known to staff at
Alma Street clinic, committed suicide, and whether the deceased was at the
time, or before his death, a patient at Alma Street clinic; and
(c) whether at
any time prior to his death the deceased tried to get admission into Alma
Street clinic by scaling the perimeter fence?
(2) Is the
minister aware that it is a common practice for mental health patients
desperate for medical intervention at Alma Street clinic to try to scale the
perimeter fence so that they can get in?

advised by the Department of Health that no suicides have occurred within the
Fremantle Hospital Alma Street clinic from November 2011.
(b)–(c)
There have been no reports of a patient suicide on 10 or 11 November 2012.
(2) No such
incidents have been brought to the attention of the staff of the facility.
