I refer to the final report of the Royal Commission Into Whether There Has Been Any Corrupt or Criminal Conduct by Western Australian Police Officers, tabled on 17 August. Notes to the financial statements at page 22 indicate that a sum of $2.833 million was expended on legal services over 2003-04. (1) Did the sum include the cost of engaging four senior lawyers; namely, Peter Hastings, QC; Matthew Byrne; Ken Pettit, Senior Counsel; and Stephen Hall, as counsel assisting the commission? (2) If so, what was the total cost of their respective appointments? (3) Were other legal practitioners engaged to assist the commission? (4) If so, who were they, what were their briefs and how much were they paid? Hon KIM CHANCE
