Further to my question to the Leader of the House representing the Premier on Tuesday, August 13 2002.
The Perth Entertainment Centre is an unique theatre facility in Perth and is not comparable in resources or specifications to the Burswood Dome which is essentially a convention hall -
(1) How will the Western Australian community participate in major international arena and theatrical tours if this facility is lost?
(2) Can the Minister give assurances that the architecturally inferior and acoustically inferior and acoustically inappropriate Burswood Dome will be upgraded to fill the theatre venue void left when the Entertainment Centre is demolished?
(3) Can the Minister investigate and refute the belief that the Burswood management has plans to demolish the Burswood Dome?

(2) - (3) The Government expects the Burswood Dome to continue to operate in accordance with the requirements of the Casino Control Act 1984 and the Casino (Burswood Island) Agreement Act 1985 and the associated regulations. The Government will not agree to any changes to the act until a suitable alternative venue is established. Any upgrading of the Burswood Dome is a matter for the management of the Burswood Casino and not a matter for which the Government has responsibility. I refer the member to the comments in the former Premier and former Minister for Tourism's media release of 28 November 2000 which indicated that major improvements were to be made to the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre so that it could be used as a performance facility - with the plenary hall being used as a theatre for popular music concerts and large scale touring music productions. The current Government recognises that the original design agreed to by the previous Government did not provide enough seating for these events. This Government is pleased with the announcement from the PCEC on 20 November 2002 on design enhancement to the PCEC which will effectively double the number of people the centre can host at events.
