I refer to question on notice No. 2432, operations at the Norseman OK Mine, and
Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995
regulation 10.15 and 10.10(3), and ask -
(1) Is there any requirement that a communication channel or more specifically, channel 45 be established as the emergency channel on radios in underground mine workings?
(2) If yes to (1), was such a channel operative at the time of operations recommencing after the closure of the mine on Wednesday 12 May?
(3) When allowing for the Norseman Gold OK Mine to reopen was the mines inspector aware that not all escape routes had been completed or were in an operable and safe condition before production operations again recommenced?
(4) If no to (3), why not?
(5) If yes to (3), why was the mine allowed to restart operations?
