(1) Currently there are 34 cases in the Perth Office not allocated to a specific case worker. These cases are allocated to more senior child protection personnel, mostly Team Leaders. Answers to other parts of this question are given in reference to these cases
There are four Team Leaders in the Perth Office responsible for case matters in this way.
(2) None of the 34 cases which are the responsibility of more senior child protection personnel have been unallocated to a case worker for more than 3 months.
(3) It would be difficult to provide specific details regarding the period from intake to allocation as this can vary dependent on the child protection matter in individual cases. Cases are allocated according to priority of need.
(4) & (5)
In this area the department is applying an order issued by the WA Industrial Relations Commission regarding caseload management. I seek leave to table that document.
In addition professional practices by Department personnel in determining the allocation of cases result in all cases undergoing an initial assessment following which they are prioritised and then regularly reviewed. At their discretion and when managing workloads for their team, Team Leaders can have responsibility for some open cases. They are responsible for ensuring that urgent matters are responded to and high priority cases are allocated to case workers. Team Leaders are highly experienced and qualified child protection professionals.
