QuestionView source ↗

(1) Mindful that 60% of road deaths occur in remote and regional areas, can the Minister confirm that he has considered a submission from the Royal Automotive Club (RAC) in the form of a Regional Roads Plan?
(2) Does the Minister endorse the plan?
(3) Given the economic constraints the Minister recently conceded that fully implementing the Royalties for Region agenda may not be possible, was funding sought in this year’s budget to implement some or all of the recommendations in the RAC plan?

(1) Yes.
(2) The matters raised in the RAC's submission do not fall within the scope of the Regional Development portfolio and are not directly related to the principle objectives of Royalties for Regions. I intend to refer the submission to the relevant ministers for their consideration and, if appropriate, endorsement.
(3) The RAC Plan called for the 2009/10 State Budget to include funding for a number of programs and recommended that funding from Royalties for Regions be allocated to a four year Regional Roads Rescue program. Funding was not allocated for this purpose from the 2009/10 Royalties for Regions budget.
