I refer to the ministerial media statement on 10 October 2016, Regional residents to shape their future , and I ask: (a) will the Minister provide a detailed explanation of the strategy of how Aboriginal people in remote communities will be surveyed, other than '50,000 copies distributed at random across regional Western Australia'; (b) how much does the survey cost; and (c) how much funding has Royalties for Regions provided?

(a)       The Living in the Regions survey, being undertaken by the Department of Regional Development (DRD) is a random and confidential sample of regional residents.
The survey is available online through DRDs website. 50,000 surveys have been mailed at random to residents across regional Western Australia.
The survey is also being distributed through social media channels, including the Facebook page of the Regional Services Reform Unit, which is targeted at and followed by residents of regional and remote Aboriginal communities.
In mid-November when the majority of mail and online survey responses have been received, phone surveys will be conducted to fill gaps in response rates from particular regions or demographic groups, and ensure that the sample is broadly representative of regional communities. Following the phone surveys, additional collections may also be undertaken on a case by case basis.
(b)       DRD has engaged the consultant EY Sweeney to deliver the survey. The total contract value is $181,982 (excluding GST).
(c)        The consultant contract is funded through DRD’s operational budget which is funded by Royalties for Regions.
