I refer to the Australian Labor Party tourism policy paper that states - Labor will . . . undertake . . . a $2 million tourist attraction in the Manjimup/Nannup region; I ask - (1) Can the Premier confirm that this icon project is the sky jetty at Donnelly that the Minister for the Environment described as “an important tourism development for the Manjimup-Nannup region”? (2) Can the Premier also confirm that the State Government has allocated only half the promised funds? (3) Is the Premier aware that the project remains at a standstill while the State stalls on the remaining funds because it is implementing yet another feasibility study, when one is already available, having been undertaken by the previous Government? (4) Given that this Government claims that ecotourism is the answer to the crisis in south west towns, when will the Premier begin work on this important icon project? Dr GALLOP

I will comment on the last point made by the member. This Government’s approach to the south west of this State is not based upon tourism; it is based upon a recognition of the diversity of industries in that area, including the timber industry. As members know, the plantation sector will play an important role in that region. The member asked a series of detailed questions and I know that the Opposition is always desperate to get detailed answers. Therefore, I would like the member to put her question on notice and I will provide a detailed response.
