RevenueWA—Information security protocols
282. Hon Tjorn Sibma to the minister representing the Minister for Finance:
I refer to both the
Mining Amendment (Transfer of Royalty Administration) Bill 2025 and the Corruption
and Crime Commission's Report on Risks to Confidential
Information Control in the Public Sector of 8 May 2025.
Noting the proposed
transfer of royalty administration and collection functions from the Department
of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) to RevenueWA, what
enhanced information security protocols will RevenueWA follow in light of the CCC's
sobering findings of the lax treatment of confidential information at the
Department of Finance?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer has
been provided to me by the Minister for Finance.
Paragraph 49 of the
CCC's report acknowledges that the Department of Finance has implemented
stricter controls over confidential material since the incident detailed in
that report occurred. RevenueWA manages data security through encryption and
active security vulnerability scanning. RevenueWA staff undergo annual security
awareness training and sign confidentiality agreements acknowledging awareness
of confidentiality and their obligations under the legislation and
administrative schemes administered by RevenueWA.
