EMERGENCY SERVICES —
POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER PRESUMPTION —FIRST RESPONDERS
283. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the Minister for Emergency Services:
I refer to question on notice 1177
and tabled paper 2014, which was the most recent briefing note provided to the
Minister for Emergency Services by the Department of Fire and Emergency
Services on post-traumatic stress illness protections for emergency services
personnel.
(1) Noting that
this briefing note is dated 20 September 2021, is it correct that the minister
has not requested a briefing on this matter in his time as the Minister for
Emergency Services?
(2) If no to (1), when did the
minister last request a briefing on this matter?
(3) Does DFES
still support the need for PTSI protections for emergency services personnel as
stated in the briefing note?
(4) If yes to (3), what action has the minister taken
to support PTSI protections in his 14 months as the minister?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(4) The
Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner provides me with regular verbal
briefings on a number of matters. My priority
and focus as minister is preventing injury and illness and protecting the
health and safety of all emergency services personnel. This is in
addition to the great emphasis placed by the government on ensuring that those
who do suffer from injury are fully supported in their recovery.
