DEPARTMENT OF FIRE AND
EMERGENCY SERVICES — RURAL FIRE SERVICE — ESTABLISHMENT
1115. Hon
LAINE McDONALD to the
Attorney General representing the Minister for Emergency Services:
I refer to the government's recent commitment to establish a rural
fire service as either a separate entity or a sub‑department of the
Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
(1) Is there a particular model of a rural
fire service in another state that the government favours as representing the
most appropriate one to be deployed in Western Australia?
(2) If yes to (1), which state model is
preferred and why?

On behalf of the Minister for Emergency Services,
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) Consultation will commence
shortly with key stakeholders, including local governments, to discuss current
and future bushfire management issues, including operational jurisdictions of
the proposed rural fire service.
