Local government—Elections
871. Hon Dr Brian Walker to the minister representing
the Minister for Electoral Affairs:
Ahead of this
weekend's local government elections, I refer the minister to the fact that the
Western Australian Electoral Commission was recently required to resend postal
votes to electors in certain local government wards after incorrect ballots
were initially issued.
(1) How many households were affected by the
initial issuance of incorrect ballots and in what localities?
(2) What penalties, if any, would an elector who
completed and returned an incorrect ballot in good faith be liable to face, and
are WAEC staff indemnified against any similar charges being brought against
them for facilitating such a potential breach?
